We offer a private service for patients who require diagnosis and management of acute and chronic eye conditions

Many patients presenting to our practice require assessments that are beyond the standard eye exam or sight test.  There is no local community NHS service for acute eye problems, but we offer a prompt private service for patients who do not wish to visit the hospital eye department.

Uniquely for one practice, both optometrists are Glaucoma Specialists and Registered Independent Prescribers.  This means we can offer a higher level of service to diagnose, treat, monitor, prescribe and review medication for a range of eye conditions including

  • Glaucoma and ocular hypertension
  • Diagnosis of macular degeneration and other retinal conditions
  • Flashes and floaters
  • Dry eyes
  • Blepharitis
  • Red, watery, itchy eyes
  • Eye infections and allergies
  • Superficial foreign bodies
  • Sudden loss of vision

Patients who require further monitoring or a more specialist level of care, can be referred on to a NHS ophthalmology service.

And we are now delighted to be home to Wetherby Eye Clinic, a new specialist community NHS Eye Service, where suitable patients previously requiring referral to a hospital eye clinic and continued monitoring, can be seen in the practice by our specialist optometrists and visiting ophthalmologist – read more

Low Vision

For some patients, their vision is not adequate for their daily needs, despite the best spectacle correction. This may be due to age related eye changes such as macular degeneration. Careful assessment can be offered to identify what additional support is required. This may be through advice about lighting and contrast, use of optical magnifiers, computer technology, or referral to other organisations that can offer help in adapting to reduced vision.

Please note these specialist services are not funded by the NHS so our usual charges apply, but we will be happy to discuss this with you.

At Appleson Optometrists we have the experience and ability to offer a range of specialised eye care to maintain the health of your eyes.
