Patients with Learning Disabilities
We provide that extra special care for those who need it
At Appleson Optometrists we have specially trained and experienced optometrist and dispensing staff that are able to provide the right care and attention to those who need that extra assistance, not only due to the tendency that they are vulnerable to eye sight issues, but also their need to have extra reassurance before, during and after the eye test procedures.
Our experience tells us that:-
- People with learning disabilities have a higher incidence of eye and vision problems, but may not know they have a sight problem and they may not be able to tell others.
- People with learning disabilities are at a considerable disadvantage if they are cannot see clearly.
We are proud of our long established specialist service that has allowed us to build trust with the patients, by understanding their specific needs and abilities.
To help us to continue to understand the necessary eye care provision required and benefit those who need it, we have registered with SeeAbility’s eye 2 eye campaign, which aims to improve eye care and vision for people with learning disabilities.
We use pre-exam questionnaires so that we can adapt the eye exam according to the individual’s need, and post exam feedback to help patients and carers get a better understanding of the outcome and advice given.
Also for any patient or visitor who are in a wheelchair, we provide assistance in entering our practice, using our mobility stair climber. Just let us know prior to your visit and we will have somebody waiting to help you on your arrival.
If you are concerned about the eye health of a person you are guardian to or your know they are experiencing any visual problems then contact us now on tel: 01937 583278 or book an appointment today, as we will be pleased to help.
